Mizoram To Sikkim, Here Are The States With Lowest Number Of Lok Sabha Seats

As India marches through its marathon Lok Sabha elections, with two phases behind and five more to go, the country is preparing for the crucial third phase scheduled for May 7. The Lok Sabha, India's lower house of Parliament, comprises 545 seats, although elections are held for 543 constituencies. The two remaining seats are filled through presidential nomination, mainly representing the Anglo-Indian community.

Of these 543 seats, 412 are general seats, while 84 are reserved for Scheduled Castes and 47 for Scheduled Tribes.

Among the states, some have a significantly lower number of Lok Sabha seats, often reflecting their smaller size or population. Here are the states with the lowest number of Lok Sabha constituencies:

  1. Mizoram: With just one seat, Mizoram has the lowest count of Lok Sabha constituencies among states. This seat is reserved for Scheduled Tribes.

  2. Nagaland: Similarly, Nagaland has only one Lok Sabha seat.

  3. Sikkim: Sikkim, despite its scenic beauty and unique cultural heritage, also has just one Lok Sabha seat.

These states, despite their small representation in the Lok Sabha, are crucial parts of India's diverse political landscape.

Turning to Union Territories, they too have varying numbers of Lok Sabha seats, often corresponding to their size and population. Here are the Union Territories with the lowest number of Lok Sabha seats:

  1. Ladakh: Ladakh, known for its breathtaking landscapes and high-altitude desert, has one Lok Sabha seat. It became a Union Territory in 2019 after the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir.

  2. Andaman and Nicobar Islands: This archipelago in the Bay of Bengal, famous for its pristine beaches and lush greenery, also has one Lok Sabha seat.

  3. Lakshadweep: The serene and beautiful Lakshadweep Islands, located in the Arabian Sea, have one Lok Sabha seat.

These territories, though small in size, contribute significantly to India's political tapestry and are important in the democratic process.

As India continues its electoral journey, each phase brings with it its own set of expectations, challenges, and aspirations. The diversity of India's states and territories, each with its own unique identity, adds richness to the country's democratic framework. The upcoming phases of the Lok Sabha elections will undoubtedly shape the future course of India's governance and development
